Higher Education Data Analytics
Building a System-Wide Data and Analytics Capacity
University of North Carolina System
The University of North Carolina System (UNC System) is one of the most valuable public higher education systems in the country. In North Carolina, all the public educational institutions granting four-year degrees are part of the University of North Carolina System. The multi-campus system encompasses 16 universities and the NC School of Science and Mathematics, the nation’s first public residential high school for gifted students.
UNC System partnered with HelioCampus to modernize the way data are shared among the constituent institutions and move to a flexible platform that would allow for broader access, better reporting, improved visualizations, and deeper insights.
How UNC System Office Uses the Data
Improved Data Collection and Speed
The UNC System Office used an old method of flat-file collection, which made it challenging to use the data. Abandoning the old method, the UNC System Office is now able to collect data more frequently and access it more robustly, which means there are larger amounts of raw data elements. Now, they have the ability to use the system as a warehouse and a customizable reporting and analytical source.
Building for Individuals and a System
With 16 higher education institutions in the UNC System, they needed an increase in flexible components designed for each unique organization within the System. By providing cloud technology, data infrastructure, and data visualization, each institution has customizable options to build a dashboard with drill-down capabilities.
Tapping HelioCampus for a Customizable Analytics Architecture
UNC System Office and their 16 higher education institutions could work together to create and take advantage of a new data and analytics ecosystem. As a result, they modernized the way data was shared amongst their constituent institutions and moved to a flexible platform with deeper insights.
